What is the Evolution Aqua Varipump?
The Evolution Aqua Varipump is a high-performance, energy-efficient pond pump designed for koi ponds and large filtration systems. It features an adjustable digital controller that allows you to vary the flow rate, optimise power consumption, and monitor performance in real time.

Can the Evolution Aqua Varipump be used in or out of the pond?
Yes. The Varipump is suitable for both submersible installation inside the pond and external (dry-mounted) installation in a filtration system. When installing externally, ensure the pump and pipework are fully primed before switching on.

Is the Varipump self-priming?
No. The Evolution Aqua Varipump is not self-priming. If installed above water level, you must manually prime the pump and inlet pipework to prevent dry running and potential damage.

What fittings are needed to connect the Varipump to pressure pipe?
To connect your Evolution Aqua Varipump to pressure pipe:

Varipump 10,000: use a 1½" single union (female threaded to plain)
Varipump 20,000 & 30,000: use a 2" single union
Pressure pipe can then be solvent-welded into the union for a secure connection.

Can the Varipump be used as a dry-mounted pond pump?
Yes, the Varipump can be used as a dry-mounted pond pump provided:

The pump is installed below water level where possible
The system is fully primed
All pipework connections are airtight
Improper dry installation is one of the most common causes of poor performance.

Are Evolution Aqua Varipumps quiet?
Yes. Varipumps are designed to operate quietly and efficiently. If you notice unusual noise or vibration, check for:

Blocked impeller
Air leaks on dry installations
Debris in the strainer cage
Incorrect mounting surface

How do I calculate the correct head height for my Varipump?

Head height is the total vertical lift plus pipe friction losses. To size your Evolution Aqua Varipump correctly:

Measure the vertical distance from water surface to outlet
Add estimated friction losses from pipe length and bends
Compare with the pump performance chart
Correct head height calculation ensures optimal flow and energy efficiency.

How long are the Varipump cables?
Typical cable lengths:

Pump to controller: approximately 10 metres
Plug to controller: approximately 2 metres
Always check your specific model specification before installation.

Does the Varipump come with a plug?
Yes. Evolution Aqua Varipumps are supplied with a fitted UK plug for straightforward installation.

How often should I clean my Evolution Aqua Varipump?
For best performance, clean your Varipump every 6–12 months, or more frequently in ponds with heavy debris or blanket weed. Regular maintenance helps maintain flow rate and prolong pump life.

How do I clean a Varipump pond pump?
To clean your Evolution Aqua Varipump:

Disconnect from the mains
Remove the pump from the pond or system
Open the strainer cage
Clean the impeller and housing
Reassemble and restart
Always follow the official manual for your model.

Should I remove my Varipump in winter?
If your pond system is shut down during freezing weather, remove the pump, clean it thoroughly, and store it in a frost-free location to prevent damage.

Why does my Varipump have no flow?
If your Evolution Aqua Varipump is running but not pumping water, check:

Power supply and fuse
Pump is fully primed (dry installs)
All valves are open
Strainer cage is clean
No air leaks in pipework
Non-return valve direction is correct
These steps resolve most no-flow issues.

What do Varipump fault codes mean?
Common Evolution Aqua Varipump controller codes include:

E01: Low water or pump running dry
E02: Motor or over-current fault
E03 / E04: Voltage issue
E05: Impeller blocked
HHH: Temporary low mains voltage after power interruption
If faults persist after checks, contact your dealer or Evolution Aqua support.

What warranty does the Evolution Aqua Varipump have?
The Evolution Aqua Varipump includes a 2-year manufacturer’s guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship under normal pond use. Wear parts such as impellers and seals are not covered.
